FORT LAUDERDALE, FL\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 The\u00a0Jason Taylor Foundation\u00a0<\/strong>is pleased to announce that Taylor Gensolin\u00a0<\/strong>has earned the honor of being named South Florida Youth Poet Laureate <\/strong>(SFYPL) for the 2019-20 school year. A current Cypress Bay High School<\/strong><\/a><\/span> senior, Taylor submitted a unique writing portfolio described by judges as \u201cspectacular\u201d and \u201cmysterious, yet understandable.\u201d Her chapbook of poems and original artwork, Non Compos Mentis <\/em>will be released during a celebratory event on Wednesday, March 20 <\/strong>at studio blu in Weston as part of the Louder Than A Bomb Florida<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>youth poetry festival.<\/em><\/p>\n [image src=”http:\/\/jasontaylorfoundation.com\/2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Secondary.Image_.SFYPL_.Books_.2019-600×345.png” shape=”img-rounded”]<\/p>\n The South Florida Youth Poet Laureate competition is a collaboration between the Jason Taylor Foundation\u2019s Omari Hardwick bluapple Poetry Network<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, and Urban Word<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, a New York-based literary arts education and youth development organization. Taylor is now the fourth ever winner of the Youth Poet Laureate.<\/p>\n An esteemed panel of educators, authors, poets and community professionals meticulously read through the largest submission pool since the inception of the South Florida Youth Poet Laureate program that included a portfolio of poetry and each student\u2019s r\u00e9sum\u00e9. At the end of the process, one Youth Poet Laureate and two Youth Poet Ambassadors were selected. The Ambassadors are Jennifer Chiou<\/strong>, currently dual enrolled at Westglades Middle School and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, and Sienna Medina<\/strong>, a senior at Fort Pierce Central High School.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Youth Poet Laureate program truly celebrates our students and their relationship with the written word,\u201d said Seth Levit, Executive Director of the Jason Taylor Foundation. \u201cThe quality of writing, the depth of thought, and the overall caliber of the submissions continues to grow each and every year. We congratulate Taylor, Jennifer, Sienna and all of this year\u2019s talented participants.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n As Youth Poet Laureate, Taylor will work with the Jason Taylor Foundation and Urban Word to help foster community and social awareness through her poetry.
