[image src=”http:\/\/jasontaylorfoundation.com\/2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Secondary.Image_.blu_is_for_Apples.Isabella-Vargas.600×600.png” shape=”img-rounded”]<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Isabella Vargas<\/strong>, a third-grade student at Gator Run Elementary School<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in Weston, Fla., was recently named the Grand Prize Winner of the Jason Taylor Foundation\u2019s Fifth Annual blu is For Apples<\/strong> Poetry Contest as part of its Omari Hardwick bluapple Poetry Network<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and in partnership with Hoffman\u2019s Chocolates<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n Hundreds of youth representing four different Broward County elementary schools participated in this year\u2019s contest. Students were challenged with writing a poem inspired by the prompt \u201cWhat is my orchard like?\u201d and guided through a virtual workshop led by a member of the Foundation\u2019s bluapple Poetry staff.<\/p>\n Students were grouped into three different categories (K-1, 2-3, 4-5) as each school selected two winners per category to submit to the Jason Taylor Foundation<\/strong>. A panel of judges made up of officials from both the Foundation and Hoffman\u2019s Chocolates chose a winner from each school, as well as an overall winner.<\/p>\n As Grand Prize Winner, Isabella will receive a Hoffman\u2019s Chocolates Sweet Ride Party<\/strong><\/a><\/span> at her home for up to 30 guests. Additionally, she will be recognized during the Jason Taylor Foundation\u2019s annual Louder Than A Bomb Florida<\/strong><\/a><\/span> poetry festival in March.<\/p>\n \u201cWe received so many wonderful submissions this year and it was truly refreshing to read how creative and descriptive these young students were with their poetry,\u201d<\/span> said Gaby Martinez<\/strong>, bluapple Poetry Programs Assistant and coordinator of the blu is For Apples Contest. \u201cAsking elementary school children to reflect during a global pandemic was eye-opening and gave us great insight into the world through their eyes.
