LAUDERDALE, FL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 The<\/span><b> Jason Taylor Foundation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is pleased to announce that <\/span><b>Amanda Budejen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has earned the honor of being named <\/span><b>South Florida Youth Poet Laureate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SFYPL) for the 2021-22 school year. A current Cypress Bay High School senior, Amanda submitted a unique writing portfolio earning high marks from a panel of judges. A special presentation will take place during the organization\u2019s monthly youth open mic \u201cThe VoiceBox\u201d on <\/span><b>Friday, April 29 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at <\/span><b>ArtServe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Ft. Lauderdale to celebrate Amanda and two Youth Poet Ambassadors, serving as a fitting conclusion to National Poetry Month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amanda is an award-winning writer whose accolades include competing in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7zuo2R_odbI\"><b>2021 Louder Than A Bomb Florida Team<\/b><\/a> <b>Finals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, earning a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artandwriting.org\/static\/534d17bfdd58bf24a7b961cff42e1118\/Scholastic-Awards_Yearbook-w-Addendum_2020.pdf\"><b>Regional Silver Medal<\/b><\/a><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and multiple<\/span><b> Honorable Mentions from the\u00a0<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artandwriting.org\/\"><b>Scholastic Art &amp; Writing Awards<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, being named a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youngarts.org\/storage\/app\/media\/2021%20Competition\/2021%20YoungArts%20Winners.pdf\"><b>2021\u00a0Silver<\/b><\/a><b> Knight nominee for the English and Literature category<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, placing <\/span><b>second in WordUp! Spoken Word Competition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and being published in <\/span><b><i>Just Poetry!!!<\/i><\/b><b> National Poetry Quarterly,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an American High School Poets anthology and <b>The Rewritten<\/b>, a Wingless Dreamer anthology. Though Amanda is talented in multiple genres of writing, she hopes to use her poems to amplify the feelings and beautiful things that come with being alive. \u201cWriting is my way of expressing myself honestly and as purely as I can, and hopefully, I\u2019ll inspire others to do the same,\u201d Budejen said.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The South Florida Youth Poet Laureate competition is a collaboration between the Jason Taylor Foundation\u2019s <\/span><b>Omari Hardwick bluapple Poetry Network<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Urban Word<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a New York-based literary arts education and youth development organization. Amanda is now the seventh winner of the South Florida Youth Poet Laureate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An esteemed panel of educators, authors, poets and community professionals meticulously read through the largest submission pool since the inception of the South Florida Youth Poet Laureate program that included a portfolio of poetry and each student\u2019s r\u00e9sum\u00e9. At the end of the process, one Youth Poet Laureate and two Youth Poet Ambassadors were selected. The Ambassadors are <\/span><b>Stephanie Seraphin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, currently dual enrolled at Miami Northwestern High School and Miami Dade College, and <\/span><b>Shnayjaah Jeanty<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a senior at Charles W. Flanagan High School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe Youth Poet Laureate program is an opportunity for young writers to put forth a body of work that is representative of their true voice,\u201d said <\/span><b>Shawntee` Herring<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Program Director of the Omari Hardwick bluapple Poetry Network. \u201cThe creativity, unique perspective, and depth of thought of the submissions are inspiring and continue to amaze the judges each and every year. We congratulate Amanda, Stephanie, and Shnayjaah, as well as the other participants for an outstanding show of penmanship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda will work with the Jason Taylor Foundation and Urban Word to help foster community and social awareness through her poetry. In addition to the recognition and philanthropic and performance opportunities, the South Florida Youth Poet Laureate will publish her own chapbook to be presented and celebrated at a book release party. Additionally, Amanda will have the opportunity to enter the National Youth Poet Laureate program. Last year\u2019s South Florida Youth Poet Laureate, Isabella Ramirez, is currently one of four finalists for the National Youth Poet Laureate title.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The South Florida Youth Poet Laureate is a joint program of the Jason Taylor Foundation and Urban Word, with support from the Miami Dolphins, UPS, and UKG, and championed by the leading national literary and arts organizations, including the President\u2019s Committee on the Arts &amp; the Humanities, the Library of Congress, Academy of American Poets, Poetry Society of America, Pen Center USA, and Cave Canem.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>About the Jason Taylor Foundation<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In July 2004, Miami Dolphins legendary Defensive End, Jason Taylor, established the Jason Taylor Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization.
