WESTON, Fla. — The Jason Taylor Foundation, in partnership with Until Forever, is proud to announce Nicolas Tovar-Medina of Cypress Bay High School as the inaugural recipient of the Tim Schmidt Jr. Memorial Scholarship.
Created in memory of Tim Schmidt Jr., the scholarship was established to recognize senior high school soccer players who embody leadership, perseverance, effort, and commitment both on and off the field. The award provides financial support to students pursuing higher education at a college, university, or technical school, regardless of whether they continue playing soccer competitively.
Nicolas, a Weston resident and graduating senior at Cypress Bay High School, plans to pursue a degree in Sports Administration. A dedicated student-athlete with a 3.41 GPA and recipient of the Gold Seal of Biliteracy, Nicolas has spent nearly a decade competing in youth and high school soccer programs in Illinois and South Florida. His playing experience includes Kicks FC in Chicago, Lauderhill Lions, Weston FC Black, Weston FC MLS NEXT, and Cypress Bay High School, where he has demonstrated versatility by competing at multiple positions across the field.
While Nicolas’ accomplishments on the field are impressive, it was his character, loyalty, and dedication to his teammates and community that stood out throughout the selection process.
“In each of my teams I have brought friendship, loyalty, and commitment,” Nicolas shared in his application. “Through my work ethic and hard work, I have proven myself to my coaches and teammates as a team player and someone who will work as hard as they can for the team.”
Nicolas also reflected on the impact soccer has had on his life and the communities he has been part of.
“I have contributed not only on the field but off the field as a good person, player, and teammate,” he wrote.
The Tim Schmidt Jr. Memorial Scholarship was designed to celebrate student-athletes who may not always receive headlines or accolades, but who consistently demonstrate effort, resilience, leadership, and a positive impact on those around them. Nicolas exemplifies those values through his commitment to academics, athletics, and personal character.
“We are incredibly proud to recognize Nicolas as the first-ever recipient of this scholarship,” said Tim Schmidt, Sr., President of Until Forever. “His dedication to his teammates, his humility, and the way he carries himself both on and off the field reflect exactly what this scholarship was created to honor.”
The scholarship provides recipients with $1,250 annually over four years, totaling $5,000, contingent upon continued enrollment in a secondary education institution.
