The LAB - Jason Taylor Foundation

bluapple Poetry Summer Workshop Series

For many young writers, summer is more than a break from school. It is finally a chance to breathe, create, reflect, and reconnect with themselves outside of grades, deadlines, and expectations.

The Lab is a summer poetry and creative writing workshop series designed for teens who want to strengthen their writing, experiment with new styles, overcome creative blocks, and build community with other young writers who understand the power of self-expression.

At bluapple Poetry, we believe creativity deserves space to grow. While school often focuses on academic achievement, The Lab focuses on the artist, the storyteller, the thinker, and the voice behind the student.

Whether you are an experienced spoken word poet, a journal writer, a songwriter, or someone just beginning to explore creative writing, The Lab offers a welcoming environment where students can create freely, take risks, and discover new dimensions of their voice.

Who Is The Lab For?

The Lab is open to middle and high school students who:

  • Love poetry, spoken word, storytelling, or creative writing
  • Want to improve their writing skills in a supportive environment
  • Enjoy self-expression through art and language
  • Are looking for creative community and collaboration
  • Want inspiration, motivation, and new techniques for writing
  • Feel creatively stuck and want to reconnect with their voice
  • Want to learn from experienced poets, educators, and guest artists

No previous poetry experience is required. Students only need curiosity, openness, and a willingness to create.

What Students Can Expect

Each workshop is designed to be interactive, engaging, and student-centered. Sessions may include:

  • Creative writing prompts
  • Spoken word and performance exercises
  • Group discussions and collaboration
  • Exploration of poetry styles and themes
  • Revision and feedback opportunities
  • Music, media, and cultural inspiration
  • Guest facilitators and teaching artists
  • Confidence-building through performance and sharing

The Lab encourages students to experiment, challenge themselves creatively, and connect with peers who share similar passions and experiences.

Our Goal

The goal of The Lab is simple:

To give young people a creative home.

We want students to leave the summer feeling more confident in their writing, more connected to their voices, and more inspired to continue creating long after the workshops end.

Poetry has the power to help students process emotions, tell their stories, build confidence, and find community. The Lab exists to nurture that power.

More Than Workshops

bluapple Poetry summer programming is about community. It is about creating spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and valued beyond the classroom.

Through workshops like The Lab, students are reminded that their stories matter, their voices matter, and that other young people are searching for the same kind of connection and expression they are.

Sometimes all a young writer needs is the right room to grow.

The Lab hopes to be that room.
