ABOUT THE SERIES
The bluapple Poetry Network’s Educator’s Studio is a free series of workshops and discussions dedicated to providing teachers of writing and the arts with resources, concepts, and lesson plans that can be utilized in their classrooms, after school clubs, and other projects that inspire youth through poetry. Guest facilitators from Florida and across the country will guide participants through the monthly series.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Shanelle Gabriel is a poet/singer, educator, and the Deputy Director of Urban Word NYC, a nationally recognized youth organization that uses poetry & hip-hop to promote literacy and youth voice. After receiving her degree in Communication Arts with a minor in Business Management from Utica College, she developed a passion for supporting and building multifarious programming for youth. With over 10 years of teaching experience, from elementary to college level, and with several years in school administration, she developed an expertise in finding ways to cultivate student engagement in the classroom and in the community. Shanelle has also facilitated city-wide and full school staff trainings with educators in both Charter and public schools to address racism and bias and to aid teachers in creating culturally responsive sustaining curriculum as well as classrooms. Her artistic endeavors led her to feature on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, tour internationally, share stages with artists such as Jill Scott, Nas, Dave Chapelle, and be noted as one of “8 Millennial Feminist Poets That Deserve Recognition” by BET.com.
